It’s election season, and while we don’t endorse candidates, let’s just say this one looks worthy.
Marcello Cervone, a sophomore who does double duty as quarterback and linebacker for Morristown High School’s football varsity, has been nominated by his coaches for USA Football’s Heart of a Giant Award, presented by the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and the New York Giants.
He is among 10 nominees in the Tri-State region nominated in week 4 of the six-week competition. Each week’s top vote-getter will win $1,000 for his school’s football program.
The grand prize winner — who will be honored at a Giants game and bring home another $9,000 for his school— will be chosen based on video submissions explaining why he has the “heart of a Giant.”
Cervone maintains a strong academic record and “leads through his actions, communicates with teammates, and holds himself and others accountable,” according to contest organizers.
“Marcello serves as a role model for younger athletes in the Junior Colonials youth football program, showing them the importance of hard work, teamwork, and representing their community with pride.”
You can vote for him here through Oct. 18, 2026 — maximum one vote per day.
A victory at the polls would help brighten a Colonials season where wins so far have proven elusive on the field.
