At least two people were arrested Friday in Morristown in another ICE sweep, according to Mayor Tim Dougherty.
He said he got his first call reporting sightings of Immigration & Customs Enforcement agents around 7:30 a.m.
“They were on Lincoln Street. Then they were on MLK. Then they were on Speedwell Avenue,” Dougherty said over the weekend. “I don’t know how many (individuals were arrested), but I know they picked up two on Lincoln.”
Morristown Green has reached out to the federal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for details about who was detained.
A video on Facebook appears to show about a half dozen ICE agents, all but one wearing masks, detaining a man on what looks like Martin Luther King Avenue near the Abbett Avenue intersection. Several unmarked SUVs — silver, grey, and white — can be seen and two appear to share the same New Jersey license plate numbers. The video could not be independently verified.
ICE has conducted multiple enforcement operations in Morristown this year. Two persons were arrested last month; DHS released detainees’ identities but not arrest locations when asked to respond to reports of ICE activity in the vicinity of MLK and Lincoln Street. Eleven individuals were detained in a January raid near a Speedwell Avenue laundromat.
Social media reported a flurry of ICE activity in Maplewood and South Orange earlier this month, sparking demonstrations. GoFundMe drives were started for four detainees, reported The Village Green.
House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries called for fair and humane immigration policies and closure of the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark during a Morristown press conference this month. Dougherty said families of detainees at Delaney Hall described “absolutely appalling and awful” conditions there.
On Saturday in Morristown, Rep. Analilia Mejia (D-11th Dist.) said she has been booed on the House floor by Republican colleagues for saying “our Constitution very clearly upholds due process and equal protection for all.”

Fox News covered this story, noting the interviews with workers while highlighting responses from the Trump Organization stating that contractors and general construction managers (such as Lend Lease) were responsible for legal hiring compliance and following all applicable immigration laws.
Later in the life, Trump Golf Clubs and Resorts (2018–2019): High-profile investigations by The New York Times and The Washington Post revealed that multiple undocumented housekeepers, maintenance staff, and caddies had been employed for years using fraudulent documents, and alleged that local managers were aware.
Fox News reported on these developments, including subsequent internal audits by the Trump Organization, the firing of roughly a dozen undocumented workers at clubs in New York and New Jersey.

We just want them to be treated as human beings and no thrown in foreign prisons or US internment camps. What is happening in this country right now is WRONG and a disgrace to our values.
Kathy, there are a lot of folks who put put illegal aliens on pedestals. They take great priority over citizens and those who have followed the process to be here. These are the open border types who feel that we can’t have enough unvetted folks who ignore our immigration laws, commit violent crimes, use our resources, don’t assimilate, don’t learn our language, etc. No skills? No driver license? No insurance? No income? No money? No hay problema!
Those same types who demanded face masks during Covid (which many progressives still wear today 🙂 ) have a problem with ICE agents wearing masks.

Why is everyone so hysterical about ICE taking criminals off our streets? Morristown Police Dept. does the exact same thing. And they both put the criminals in jail to await due process. Where they end up depends on their crimes, conviction and sentencing. No different from one to the other.

They Hired roughly 200 undocumented Polish demolition workers (“the Polish Brigade”) to clear the site for Trump Tower. Workers reported 12-hour shifts with low or unpaid wages. Then Resulted in a lengthy civil lawsuit that ended in a sealed $1.38 million settlement in 1998, with a federal judge noting the workers were undocumented and worked “off the books”.
Trump Organization Golf Clubs and Properties (2000s–2019)
Investigations by news outlets like The Washington Post and Fox News identified undocumented housekeepers, maintenance staff, and groundskeepers working at minimum 11 Trump properties. So Many workers stated that on-site managers were aware they lacked legal status or helped them acquire fraudulent documents (which company executives denied). Following public reporting and the firing of dozens of undocumented employees, the Trump Organization announced it would implement the federal E-Verify system across its properties.

What concerns me most about the repeated ICE activity in Morristown is what it teaches all of our children about their community.
Children notice when streets they know become places of arrests, masked federal agents and unmarked vehicles. They notice when neighbors, classmates’ parents, or people they see working in our restaurants, shops and neighborhoods suddenly disappear. That can change a child’s sense of safety, belonging and trust in the community around them.
We should be asking ourselves what kind of community we are creating for the children who will inherit it. A community should teach children that their neighbors matter, that government operates within the law, and that the places where they live are safe places to belong. Repeated enforcement activity changes that sense of community for everyone—not just the families directly caught up in it.
Matt, stop crying. Most of the people ICE is ‘arresting’ are people who have never broken the law, who are not criminals in our society, and are just trying to make it here. The residents and business owners are very informed on what to know and expect from the Federal Laws of this country.
There is no confusion. If by chance there were confusion about labor laws, legality in voter elections, and all other forms of fraud, the resources available from the consulate can clarify them.
Pack it up, Pack it in. Time for affordability and housing and high quality education to be restored. Along with reduced crime.

It is troubling that ICE enforcement has become a recurring presence in our town.
When this happens repeatedly on our streets and in our neighborhoods, as it has in Morristown this year, I think it is reasonable for all of us to ask: Are the rules being followed? Are people’s rights being protected? And what does this recurring activity mean for the people who live and work here?
I also think we need to recognize that the impact reaches far beyond the people ICE is directly targeting. When enforcement becomes a recurring presence, it can change how an entire community moves through its own town. People may become hesitant to go to certain neighborhoods, businesses, parks, or public places—not because they are themselves targets, but because they don’t know what they might encounter or what is happening around them. Fear and uncertainty can spread throughout a community. In that sense, ICE enforcement can fracture a whole community, not just affect the people who are detained or questioned.
As a resident and a business owner in Morristown, I feel that we are being left in the dark about what is happening in our community. I don’t expect the town to control federal immigration enforcement. But I do think residents and business owners deserve clear information about what is happening, what our rights and responsibilities are, and where people can turn for help or reliable information.
This is our community. We all have a stake in making sure people feel safe, informed, and able to participate in the life of our town.
