John McCutcheon at Troubadour Concerts

October 23 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm
$35

JOHN MCCUTCHEON has emerged as one of America’s most respected and loved folk singers. As an instrumentalist, he is a master of a dozen different traditional instruments, most notably the rare and beautiful hammered dulcimer, but also the guitar, banjo, fiddle, autoharp, and more. Johnny Cash once referred to him as “the greatest instrumentalist I ever heard.” He’ll be featured at Troubadour Concerts on Friday, October 23 at 7:30 PM at the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Rd., Morristown, NJ, and webcast. Local singer-songwriter Michael Arthur will open.

John’s songwriting has been hailed by critics and singers around the globe. His 47 albums have garnered every imaginable honor, including seven Grammy nominations. He has produced over twenty albums of other artists, from traditional fiddlers to contemporary singer-songwriters to educational and documentary works. His books and instructional materials have introduced budding players to the joys of their own musicality. McCutcheon was mentored and befriended by Pete Seeger, and his commitment to grassroots political organizations has put him on the front lines of many of the issues important to communities and workers. Expect humor, heart, and musical magic—this is folk music at its most alive.

Opening the concert will be contemporary singer-songwriter Michael Arthur, a local favorite who has also had the honor of opening for David Wilcox, Tracy Grammer, and (as the designated welcoming opener on The Folk Project’s weekly online song gathering), on Zoom for virtually every touring folk artist currently on the scene!

For people who can’t attend in person, the concert will be webcast and viewable for about 24 hours after show time.

Troubadour Concerts, now in their 52nd year, are sponsored by The Folk Project each Friday evening at the Fellowship. The Folk Project is New Jersey’s leading acoustic music and dance organization, and has been showcasing acoustic and traditional music in North Jersey since 1971.

Funding has been made possible in part by funds from Morris Arts through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
