Greater Morristown weekend preview: The waiting’s over for Godot…and you’re halfway to St. Patrick’s Day

THURSDAY, SEPT. 14, 2023:

The Macculloch Hall Historical Museum in Morristown presents Art in the Garden with Lisa Madsen–Print Making 2, at 10 am. Free, pre-registration requested. Bring apron; other supplies provided. At 45 Macculloch Ave.

The Morristown & Township Library hosts free yoga on its lawn at 10 am, and every Thursday through mid-October. Bad weather moves the session inside.

The Morristown & Township Library also features Olga Dies Dreaming by Xochitl Gonzalez at its 10 am Morning Book Club. Now meeting in-person, at One Miller Road, Morristown.

Jazz favorite Grover Kemble performs at Rockaway’s Caffé NaVona, 147 Route 46, from 6 – 9 pm. Hear him play songs from his new album, I’m Serious.

At 6:30 pm, it’s a gridiron battle of the unbeatens at Morristown High School, where the 3-0 Colonials take on the 3-0 Mount Olive Marauders. Last weekend, Morristown blanked Millburn, 38-0, the varsity’s second shutout so far. (The Colonials kept Livingston off the scoreboard in their season opener. They also beat Chatham by a touchdown.)  The Marauders have defeated Randolph, Chatham and Newton. At 50 Early St.

The convention will discuss the real-life inspiration for Martin Scorsese's 'Hugo.'

At 6:45 pm, the Morristown & Township Library launches its Directions series, featuring biopics about directors, with Hugo. Free, light refreshments. Doors open half hour early. At One Miller Road, Morristown. Series runs each Thursday through Oct. 12.

Morristown’s St. Peter’s Episcopal Church hosts tango lessons in the Parish House, 7 pm for beginners, 8 pm intermediate class. At 70 Maple Ave.

The Morris Plains Farmers Market offers fresh produce from 9 am to 1 pm, at the borough’s Merchant Block.

The Morristown & Township Library hosts Indoor Qigong at 9:30 am. Free. No experience or registration required. Upstairs in the F.M. Kirby Gallery, at One Miller Road, Morristown.

Morristown’s Macculloch Hall Historical Museum presents At Your Own Pace: A Sensory-Friendly Tour, for families and care partners of neurodiverse children and teens, from 9:30 am to 11:30 pm. Free to members and with museum admission, no appointment needed. Experience the historic house with plenty to touch and time for questions, and explore the new garden sensory pathway through sight, sound, touch, and smell. At 45 Macculloch Ave.

Morristown is hosting free rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats, from 11 am to 1 pm at town hall, 200 South St. Dogs must be leashed, cats, caged. Pet licensing and micro-chipping available, for a fee. Call 973-292-6732 for details.

Xiomaro

The Morristown National Historical Park continues its 90th anniversary celebration at 2 pm with In the Steps of the Revolution: A Photo Walk with Xiomáro at Jockey Hollow in Harding. Free, registration required. A two-hour tour of the Revolutionary War encampment grounds, with shutterbug tips from photographer Xiomáro. Limited to 12 participants. First come, first served. The Morris County St. Patrick’s Parade Committee invites guests to its Halfway to St Patrick’s Day celebration, 5 pm at the Dublin Pub. Meet 2024 Grand Marshal Jack Haren Jr., and enjoy live music by the Coffin Ships, plus Irish step dancing and bagpipers. At 4 Pine St., Morristown.


SUNDAY, SEPT. 17:

The Morristown Farmers Market is back, from 8:30 am to 1 pm every Sunday through Nov. 19, 2023. Featuring 25 vendors. Produced by the Morristown Partnership, in Morristown Parking Authority Lot 10J at Spring and Morris streets (behind the Morristown Post Office). Read more.
