Works by Morristown photographer Fredy Martinez will be featured on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, as Morris Arts kicks off its second mini-summer series at the Gateway Totems.

“My whole perspective changed once I looked through my first 50mm lens,” said Martinez, a Morristown High School alumnus who lives in Philadelphia.

“Once I got comfortable shooting in public the camera became my shield. We sometimes live a little too fast and miss all the excitement around us. I intend to capture life how I see it.”

Organized this year by Carlos Sotelo of Morris Arts, the outdoor series showcases creations by artists of all backgrounds and artistic abilities, at the totems.

The twin sculptures were erected in 2016 at the Early Street Community Garden, to commemorate the immigrant heritage of Morristown’s Speedwell Avenue neighborhood.

Martinez’ exhibition is free and runs from 5 pm to 7 pm, at 17 Early St.  DJ JC will provide the musical backdrop.

The photographer hopes people will be viewing his images for a long time to come.

“Photography has been a part of my life for the past five years and will continue being so,” Martinez said.
