Editor’s note: Over the years, Morristown Green has gotten to know many contestants in Morristown’s Got Talent. One of this year’s 16 finalists also happens to be an MG correspondent:

By Allison Gogarty

My name is Allison Gogarty and I am very lucky to be a finalist in the 2015 Morristown’s Got Talent show.

If you’re not familiar with it, Morristown’s Got Talent is the largest fundraiser for the Morris Educational Foundation. It is a competition featuring local amateur talent of all sorts from Morristown, Morris Plains and Morris Township.

Before the big event I’m blogging here at Morristown Green about my preparation for the performance to give you a little insight to the show and the experience of being a finalist.

The good news is, tickets for Morristown’s Got Talent are just about sold out. The bad news is, over the past couple months, the weather has prevented me from getting to voice lesson several times.

Before MGT, this wouldn’t bother me. I started taking voice lessons a few months ago to have an hour a week to do something just for me. Now that I know I’ll be singing in front of a packed house next week, I need all the preparation I can get. After seeing the other finalists perform at media day last month I know just how good they all are and I don’t want to embarrass myself!

It has been so exciting being a part of this fantastic event. I didn’t realize when I auditioned what a big deal it would be. A couple weeks ago a camera crew came to my house to film me at home with my husband and son. The footage will be used for an introductory video that will be shown to the audience before my performance.

I’m going to ask everyone now not to laugh at my lame wave to the camera — it’s not the kind of thing that can ever look natural or cool. Although now that I’ve said that, I’m sure at least five other contestants will have intro videos featuring very suave and elegant camera waves. It might just be me.

If you want to see and judge these waves for yourself, you can purchase tickets to Morristown’s Got Talent at the Mayo Performing Arts Center.

Allison will sing What I Did for Love at the eighth annual Morristown’s Got Talent, 7 pm, Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015. Contestants are competing for $2,500 in prize money, with winners chosen by a pro panel and by the audience. Good luck to Allison and all the finalists! Stay tuned to Morristown Green for complete coverage.
