Compiled from LWV and Democracy in Action press releases:

Postcards, ranked-choice voting, soup and chili, and a film about grassroots activism are on the agenda this Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at a free civic-engagement event in Morris Township.

Democracy in Action runs from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Morristown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Road. The event is open to all ages, and participants may attend some or all of the activities.

The afternoon starts from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. with nonpartisan Get Out the Vote postcard writing, inviting participants to encourage fellow citizens to vote through handwritten postcards.

From 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., “Rank the Desserts” will introduce participants to ranked-choice voting — and give them a chance to try the method by ranking a selection of desserts.

Food also will serve a charitable purpose. From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., the “Buy a Bowl, Give a Bowl” program will offer bowls of soup or chili for $10. Each purchase also will donate a bowl to a person in need, with donations benefiting Table of Hope and Market Street Mission.

The evening will conclude with a 6:30 p.m. screening of Lightworkers, a film about activism, civic responsibility and the efforts of everyday citizens to protect democracy.

A Q&A with the film’s writer, director and producer, Bobby Roth, will follow the screening. The program is scheduled to end at 8:30 p.m.

Food, children’s activities and opportunities to connect with local organizations focused on civic participation and community engagement also will be available throughout the event.

Democracy in Action is organized by the Morristown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in partnership with the League of Women Voters of the Morris Area, Team No Nonsense North Jersey, Voter Choice NJ and other community organizations.
