It’s Election Day.
For residents of Morristown and Morris Township, that is. Today — Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026 — voters will say yay or nay to a proposed $158M bond referendum in the Morris School District.
Polls are open until 8 pm; votes by mail must be postmarked no later than 8 pm. Find your polling place here. Secure ballot dropboxes are listed here.
The district says the borrowing would pay for much-needed capital improvements at all 10 of its schools.
These include updates to plumbing and installation of air conditioning across the district, expansion of the Morristown High School cafeteria and addition of classrooms at the Frelinghuysen Middle School, and renovations to the high school and middle school auditoriums and to the high school swimming pool, among other items.
Passage of the referendum would qualify the district for $46.4 million of state aid to blunt the impact on taxpayers.
The district estimates the owner of a Morristown home assessed at the town average value ($635,443) would see an increase of $38 per month if the referendum is passed. The owner of an average Morris Township home ($560,500) would incur a $41 hike. Residents can calculate their own predicted tax increase using the district’s tax impact calculator.
