Of all the nostalgia acts that play the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, the one I never miss is Peter Noone and his 21st century reboot of Herman’s Hermits.
Who else would come here and sing Ferry Cross Lake Pocahontas ?
You can pretty much get the flavor of Sunday’s show from my prior writeups. Noone — a.k.a. Herman during the ’60s — sang most of the Hermits’ peppy hits along with hits by Gerry and the Pacemakers, the Monkees, the Dave Clark Five, the Grass Roots, and Freddy and the Dreamers over the course of 90 rollicking, frolicking minutes.

Once again, Noone channeled the energy of his British Invasion teeny bopper self — astonishing for a 78-year-old. He led sing-alongs. I’m Henry the VIII, I Am was giddy. (Think Hey Jude on spiked Red Bull.) He ventured into the audience, a good portion of which spent the evening bopping in the aisles. He aped Mick Jagger and Johnny Cash and Michael Jackson.
His longtime drummer, Dave Ferrara, had a particularly strong night, exploding into a percussive frenzy on the Yardbirds’ For Your Love.
Noone took a few liberties with that one (“I’ll deliver pizza and fajitas to your door”), and Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter briefly became Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Even when you know his jokes, the guy is funny, and fun. That’s a welcome combination these days.
See you next time, Herman.

At show last night-2nd time seeing him at MPAC-his humor never gets old. Great show-incredible Jagger impersonation.
