From the Morris Township police:

On Saturday, July 8, 2017, members of the Morris Township Police will be conducting DWI checkpoints at locations determined by DWI arrest history over the previous three years in Morris Township.

DWI Checkpoints are utilized by Law Enforcement to detect and arrest individuals that are operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and or drugs. Our primary purpose is to deter the violation of drinking and driving, however enforcement must be utilized to assure the safety of the public.

Every year, our nation suffers the loss of life due to intoxicated drivers. In 2016, Morris Township Police officers made approximately 90 DWI arrests and investigated several motor vehicle accidents that involved an intoxicated driver, as well as an injured person.

We encourage individuals to avoid driving a motor vehicle after drinking alcoholic beverages. Please identify other means of transportation in order to get home safely. Enjoy a safe and fun holiday. Happy Fourth of July.
