Rhonda Brown of Whippany has been named 2017 recipient of The Patrick Carroll Memorial Trophy, an award presented annually to a participant in the Morris ARC/ McARP bowling program.

The award was established by Patrick’s family in 2010 to honor a special needs bowler who demonstrates enthusiasm for the sport, perseverance and significant improvement in his/her scores throughout the year.

Patrick, who had lived in Morris Township, had been a McARP bowler for many years.

Born and raised in Morris Plains, Rhonda now lives at Five Friends, a home shared by five adults with special needs.

She is a dedicated bowler and plays with McARP’s (Morris County Adaptive Recreation Program) Bowling East.

McARP supervisor Marisa DelSordi says that Rhonda is very social and takes part in many of the program’s activities.

In addition to bowling, she is very active in track and field. She participates in Special Olympics’ competitions for both sports. She is also the recipient of many Special Olympic medals for her achievements throughout the years.

She loves watching game shows and Dancing the with Stars on TV and talking on the phone. She keeps up with all her friends, who know her as a “social butterfly.”

The trophy, known as “The Patrick,” was presented by Patrick’s brother, Assemblyman Michael P. Carroll (R-25th Dist.), at the program’s yearly bowling awards dinner at Zeri’s Inn in Mountain Lakes. Patrick’s memorial fund also contributes towards the costs of banquet tickets for bowlers in need.

McARP, the recreation program, of The Arc/Morris has two bowling groups which run from September to early May. Bowling West meets every Saturday at Rockaway Lanes on Route 46 in Rockaway. Bowling East, meets Saturdays at Hanover Lanes on Route 10 in Hanover.
