The Greater Morristown entertainment calendar is light this weekend–it’s a holiday, after all.

THURSDAY, MAY 25, 2017

Meet Me in Morristown  has moved to Friday, because of a rainy forecast. 

The Morristown & Township Library presents a free screening of the musical Into the Woods (2014, PG) at 6:45 pm.  At One Miller Road, Morristown.

Nicole Anderson Yanoso, a professor at the College of Saint Elizabeth and author of The Irish and the American Presidency, will discuss The Irish in the Civil War at the North Jersey Civil War Round Table at 7:14 pm. Admission: $5; members, students, free. At the Haggerty Education Center at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, 353 E. Hanover Ave., Morris Township, opposite the Morris County Library.

The Merchant of Venice, at 8 pm at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey at Drew University in Madison. Directed by Robert Cuccioli. Performances through June 4, 2017. Tickets: $29-$69.  At 36 Madison Ave.

FRIDAY, MAY 26:

Meet Me in Morristown starts Season Four, with vendor sidewalk sales on South Street at 11 am, and arts and entertainment near, and on, the Green from 5 pm to 9 pm.  A joint venture of Morris Arts and the Morristown Partnership.

The Folk Project Acoustic Getaway kicks off its holiday weekend at 6:30 pm, at a camp near Hackettstown. Vance Gilbert tops a roster of top acoustic performers who will lead workshops, jam sessions and concerts through Sunday. The whole weekend, with lodging and meals, is about $200, and day passes are available for Saturday and Sunday–but preregistration is required. Read more here.

SATURDAY, MAY 27:

Morris Plains celebrates Memorial Day with its 31st annual parade. It begins with a ceremony at 9 am at Roberts Garden, followed by the parade, which winds down Mountain Way, and Rosedale and Speedwell avenues, onto Littleton Road, ending on Route 53 at VFW Watnong Post 3401 with a free cookout and kids activities. Lots of bands, animals, antique cars, military vehicles–you can even wave at MorristownGreen.com’s merry marchers.

MONDAY, MAY 29, MEMORIAL DAY:

Veterans will be honored with a 10 am ceremony at the Morris Township municipal building; a parade will continue from there to Morristown, for an 11 am service on the Morristown Green.
