Fireworks will light up Morristown as Revolutionary War reenactors, historic figures and special programs take over the downtown for a three-day celebration of America’s 250th anniversary later this month.
Living History Weekend, scheduled for Sept. 25-27, 2026, will feature activities on the Morristown Green and at historic sites around town, leading into the Morristown Partnership’s annual Festival on the Green on Sunday.
A fireworks display sponsored by Sanofi, which opened its flagship offices in Morristown last year, will cap Saturday’s activities. The time and viewing locations have not yet been announced.
The display is being coordinated by Sanofi, the Town of Morristown, Morristown Fire Department and the Morris County 250th Anniversary Steering Committee.
“Sanofi is proud to be part of the Morris County community as we come together to create a memorable evening for residents, families and visitors to share this historic milestone,” George Coutros, Sanofi’s director of state government relations, said in a statement.
The weekend is part of Morris County’s ongoing celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
“We are proud to help connect a new generation with the stories that helped shape our county and our nation during this historic year,” said Morris County Commissioner Director Stephen Shaw.
FRIDAY: REVOLUTIONARY TRIVIA
The weekend starts Friday, Sept. 25, with Revolutionary History Trivia Night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Glenbrook Brewery in Morristown.
Participants can test their knowledge of the American Revolution and Morris County history.
SATURDAY: HISTORY COMES ALIVE
On Saturday, Sept. 26, the Morristown Green will be transformed into a Revolutionary-era gathering place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Reenactors and historic figures will be joined by demonstrations and exhibits involving militia, 18th-century medicine and weaponry. A silhouette artist also is scheduled.
Historic organizations around Morristown will offer programs, exhibits, talks and tours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
At the Macculloch Hall Historical Museum, visitors can tour the museum and its collection, which includes the nation’s largest single collection of original works by political cartoonist Thomas Nast.
At the Sansay House, the American Friends of Lafayette will explore the story and legacy of the Marquis de Lafayette.
The Morris County Historical Society will present talks at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown about local history and the people and events that shaped the community.
Organizers said more sites and programs will be announced.
“We want families, residents and visitors to experience Morris County’s incredible history in a way that is fun, engaging and accessible,” said Sarah Neibart, executive director of the Morris County 250th anniversary celebrations committee.
Saturday will conclude with the Sanofi-sponsored fireworks.
SUNDAY: FESTIVAL ON THE GREEN
Living History Weekend will wrap up Sunday, Sept. 27, in conjunction with the Morristown Partnership’s Festival on the Green, scheduled from noon to 5 p.m.
A History Corridor will feature Morris County historic sites and organizations, giving festival visitors a chance to learn about the people, places and events that shaped the county and the nation.
“So much of the history we are celebrating happened right here in Morristown, and this weekend gives residents and visitors an opportunity to experience it while enjoying everything our town has to offer today,” Mayor Tim Dougherty said.
The Morristown-based F. M. Kirby Foundation also is supporting the weekend.
Foundation Program Officer Gina Beviglia said Living History Weekend aims to bring history to life, “creating new opportunities for residents and visitors of all ages to experience the people, places and stories that shaped Morris County and our nation.”
Living History Weekend is presented by the Morris County 250th Anniversary Celebrations Committee, Morris County Board of County Commissioners, Morris County Tourism Bureau and F. M. Kirby Foundation, with the Morris County Chamber of Commerce and Morris County Economic Development Corporation, Town of Morristown, Morristown Partnership, Trustees of the Morristown Green, Sanofi, Morristown Fire Department and participating historic organizations.
Organizers also are encouraging visitors to explore local restaurants, breweries, shops, museums and parks during the weekend. A hotel room block is available at the Hyatt Regency Morristown.
