If you love painting and photography, Greater Morristown offers plenty this weekend.

You also can find thoughtful discussion about healing America’s political polarization. On the lighter side, you can apply a touch of Hairspray, or chill to some funky folk.

THURSDAY, JAN. 25, 2024:

Jazz favorite Grover Kemble performs at Rockaway’s Caffé NaVona, 147 Route 46, from 6 – 9 pm. Hear him play songs from his new album, I’m Serious.

County College of Morris in Randolph hosts an opening reception from 6 pm to 8 pm for Give It Your Best Shot, a New Jersey Photography Forum exhibition on display in the CCM Art Gallery through Feb. 22, 2024. Free, light refreshments. In the Sherman H. Masten Learning Resource Center, 214 Center Grove Road. Parking in Lot 6.

The Dominican Republic’s ambassador to the United Nations is the keynote speaker at the Morris County Hispanic-American Chamber of Commerce officer swearing-in event, which runs from 6:30 pm to 9 pm at the Valley Bank Headquarters in Morristown. Morristown’s St. Peter’s Episcopal Church hosts tango lessons in the Parish House, 7 pm for beginners, 8 pm intermediate class. At 70 Maple Ave.

At its 7 pm Evening Book Club, the Morristown & Township Library will host a casual discussion of the bestseller Oona Out of Order by Margarita Montimore. Free. In the Meeting Room downstairs. FRIDAY, JAN. 26:

The Mental Health Association of Essex and Morris presents Project Homeless Connect, a clearinghouse of services and resources for those facing or experiencing homelessness, from 9 am to 2 pm at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 70 Maple Ave., Morristown.

At 7:30 pm, the Folk Project’s Troubadour series presents Teddy Parker (AKA Julie Edelston), with openers The Trisonics. Admission: $10; children 12 and under, free.  Livestream: $7. At 21 Normandy Heights Road, Morris Township.

SATURDAY, JAN. 27:

First Church of Christ, Scientist presents Healing the Divide, a 1 p.m. panel talk led by Mark Sappenfield, editor of The Christian Science Monitor, with local clergy, who will discuss America’s political polarization. At the Morristown Masonic Center, 39 Maple Ave.

The Morris County Democratic Committee is hosting an exhibit featuring the political photography of John Hester, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Democratic headquarters in Morristown. Suggested donation: $10. Wine and cheese will be served. RSVP here. At 11 Washington St.


SUNDAY, JAN. 28:

Grow It Green Morristown’s Morris Winter Farmers Market is back, from 9:30 am to 1 pm every Sunday (except March 31) through April 2023, at the Convent Train Station in Morris Township. Featuring nearly 30 vendors.

Looking for an easy road trip? Morristown High alum Jean-Paul Picard (’74), an accomplished artist, is opening a show, Hoboken Sweeps 3D.0, from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Hoboken Historical Museum. The exhibition runs through March 3, 2024. At 1301 Hudson St.

Art in the Atrium Inc. and the Mayo Performing Arts Center host a reception from 3 pm to 6 pm for Traditions and Transitions: Historical to Contemporary Perspectives in Black Art. Free. Fifty works by more than 30 artists will be displayed. The exhibition continues at MPAC through March 3, 2024. At 100 South St., Morristown.
