Want to know more about the hospitals in the area?

Have questions about the cost of health care and what is being done to contain it?

Or about Atlantic Health System’s plans for the Morristown Medical Center? And for the health care system? Is there further expansion planned?

How about questions on the precedent-setting court ruling that requires the system to pay property taxes for much of its local nonprofit campus to the town of Morristown?

Or want to know more about the other big hospital story of the last year – lead in the water – and what is being done to prevent another problem?

The time to ask is Thursday, July 28, 2016.

Atlantic Heath, which operates five hospitals in the region, is inviting community members to its annual public meeting at 5 p.m. at the Malcolm Forbes Amphitheater on the Morristown medical center campus.

Leaders of the system will be on hand to talk about the organization and how it is working with the communities it serves. There will be opportunity for the public to pose questions.

The presentation will be followed at 6 p.m. by a screening of the PBS documentary, Being Mortal, a program based on the best-selling book by Dr. Atul Gawande that explores issues facing patients with terminal illness and their families. Hospital staff will be available to answer questions about home care, hospice, advance directives and palliative care.

Registration is preferred but not required. Those attending are asked to arrive 10 minutes early to register or sign-in. Parking is free. To register, call 1-800-247-9580.

Atlantic Health System operates Morristown, Overlook, Newton, Chilton and Hackettstown medical centers and Goryeb Children’s Hospital.
