THURSDAY, JAN. 10, 2013:

The Artful Table Weekend gets under way at 11 am, and runs through Sunday at the Morris Museum in Morris Township. Presented by the Morris Museum Friends, this event features thematic table displays by top area decorators, event planners and artists. Table themes include “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “Dinner with an Architect” and “Beatrix Potter’s Garden Party.” Opening Preview Cocktail Reception for the weekend begins at 6:30 pm, tickets are $35 for members, $40 for non-members. The museum, at 6 Normandy Heights Road, is open until 8 pm today, from 11 am to 5 pm on Friday and Saturday, and from 1 pm to 5 pm on Sunday. Music At Noon, the concert series sponsored by Music At Morristown United Methodist Church, continues its 33rd season with the husband-and-wife team of cellist Gerall Hieser and Anthony Cecere, on French horn. The concert will be held in the church sanctuary, at 50 Park Place (on the Green). A light luncheon will be available for purchase before or after the concert (11:30 am to 1:30 pm).  There is a suggested donation of $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and students are FREE.  Free childcare is available during the concert.  The sanctuary is handicapped accessible.  For further information see the website or call 973-538-2132.

Six of them are featured in a new book by former New York Times reporter Tina Kelley, a Morristown native who will speak at the Morristown & Township Library at 7 pm. The book is titled Almost Home: Helping Kids Move from Homelessness to Hope.  Tina’s talk is free and refreshments will be served. The library is at One Miller Road in Morristown.

Want to help your neighbors in times of natural disasters?  Join Morristown’s Community Emergency Response Team.  An open house is scheduled for 7 pm to 10 pm in the seniors center at town hall.

Richard Schwartz is this week’s featured speaker at the North Jersey American Revolution Round Table. A two-time recipient of Whippany Park’s Teacher of the Year award, he will be speaking this week about Change and Continuity in the Founding Generation: You Say it was a Revolution? His account of the revolution questions the degree to which American life was impacted by it. All guests are welcome at the Washington’s Headquarters Museum Auditorium at 30 Washington Place in Morristown. Admission is free. Meetings begin at 7:14 pm and Schwartz’s talk will be followed by Dick Floersheimer’s trivia questions.

Trumpet legend Chris Botti, the world’s best-selling jazz instrumentalist, will be performing at the Mayo Performing Arts Center at 8 pm. At 100 South St., Morristown. Tickets are $57-$87. Call 873-539-8008 for more information.


FRIDAY, JAN. 11:

The Simon Gallery introduces it new exhibition with a reception for artist Richard Saá from 6 pm to 8 pm, at 48 Bank St. in Morristown.  The show runs through Feb. 9, 2013.

The Center for Spiritual Living Morristown presents Thrive, an unconventional documentary that takes a close look at the balance of power and and greed in our world. As part of the January Spiritual Cinema, Thrive provides strategies for reclaiming our lives, with insights from some of the world’s visionary leaders. At 7 pm, at 331 Mount Kemble Ave., Harding. Free.

This week’s Open Stage at The Minstrel  has filled up, but it’s not too late for your chance in the spotlight if you want to perform. Simply arrive before 7:45 pm to join the lottery. Don’t want to perform? Sit in the audience and enjoy. Starts at 8 pm, at Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Road, Morris Township. Please note, new admission price is $8. There will be no Open Stage in February.


SATURDAY, JAN. 12:

Families are invited to stop by Super Science Saturdays at the Morris Museum from noon-2 pm. This week’s theme: Lava Cup. Children will explore the scientific method as they conduct experiments and observe the results. Cost: $3 per child plus museum admission. At 6 Normandy Heights Road, Morris Township.

New Jersey State Tournament boxing returns to the Morristown Neighborhood House at 7 pm.  Watch local athletes slug it out in the ring, at 12 Flagler St. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. For kids 15 and under, it’s $10. Proceeds benefit the K.O. Boxing Club and the Nabe, a nonprofit that has been helping immigrants and working class families since 1898. A flavor of fisticuffs in Morristown

We are big fans of the Canadian duo DALA. And we’re betting you will be, too, after the ladies’ 8 pm show at the Sanctuary series in Chatham. Read our take on Amanda Walther (“Da”) and Sheila Carabine (“La”) after their last visit to the these parts. And here is our interview with them. Opening for DALA are The Sultans of String, whose gig bags are overflowing with Gypsy jazz, flamenco, Cuban, and middle Eastern surprises. Admission: $25. Enjoy the legendary comedy of insult king Pat Cooper and intelligently witty Robert Klein at 8 pm at the Mayo Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $39-$59, at 100 South St., Morristown. Mature content, language.

Coro Lirico, a New Jersey-based concert opera chorus, under the direction of Warren Helms, celebrate the music of Kurt Weill with September Song – In January,  a cabaret event at Lenfell Hall at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison at  8 pm. Admission is $25. Light refreshments will be served.


SUNDAY, JAN. 13:

Hear David Mortensen discuss a Global Marshall Plan, a worldwide initiative by the Network of Spiritual Progressives (NSP), calling all advanced industrial countries to eliminate poverty and homelessness, improve education and healthcare, and repair the global environment. This seminar will focus on where contributions will go, and steps being taken to inspire support for GMP.  From 8:15 am to 9:15 am, at the Parish House of the Presbyterian Church in Morristown, at 65 South St. Admission is free.

The Morris County Historical Society invites members to meet the artists who contributed to its new exhibit, Inspiring Woman: Celebrating Women Artists of Morris County, at Acorn Hall from 11 am to 1 pm.  Nonmembers can pay for membership at the door.  A light quiche and fruit brunch will be served. The exhibit, on display through April 7, features a memorial for local artist Lucille Hobbie. Works by talented female artists in the mediums of photography, painting, sculpture and ceramics also will be on display. Tours are open to the public from 1 pm to 4 pm. There is no charge for children under 12; for children over 12, admission is $3; for adults, $6; for seniors, $5.

Animal expert Jack Hanna brings some of his favorite animal friends to the Mayo Performing Arts Center with Into the Wild Live at 1:30 pm. Tickets are $25-$35, 100 South St., Morristown.

The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey performs Winter Dreams, a concert featuring selections by Saint George, Hoiby, Butts, and Beethoven, at 3 p.m. in Grace Church, 4 Madison Ave., Madison.  Mark Fitzgerald, baritone and Ron Levy, pianist, are the soloists and Dr. Robert W. Butts is conductor. Tickets are $35/$25/$5/ for adults/seniors/sttudents under 22 with ID. They can be purchased at the orchestra’s website, or by calling 973-366-8922.

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen will be presented by The Presbyterian Church in Morristown’s Faith on Film series at 4 pm, at 65 South St. Pizza and discussion to follow. PG-13.

Morristown’s Sunday Night Portrait Drawing Sessions have returned to ArtSpace at 14 Elm St. Sessions run from 6 pm to 9 pm and feature live models and camaraderie for $10.
