Efforts to restore power in the vicinity of Tuesday’s crash at the Washington/Mills intersection in Morristown will continue, a spokesman for Jersey Central Power and Light said on Thursday afternoon.
Police, citing JCP&L, had told residents on Wednesday night that utility poles damaged by a garbage truck had been repaired and power was restored. But area residents said on Thursday that power had not come back after the accident.
JCP&L spokesman Ron Morano could not explain where the erroneous information originated.
“We made it safe,” he said of the initial repairs. “We have to go back and make more repairs.”
He could not say when power will be restored to that area, which includes parts of Mills and Early streets, Mill Place and Colonial Road. Many residents in those places dodged a bullet during Hurricane Sandy, with uninterrupted electrical service, only to lose it during Tuesday morning’s accident.
JCP&L estimates power will be restored to all of its customers by Sunday night, Nov. 11.
Wednesday’s nor’easter knocked out another 120,000 Jersey Central customers, though Morristown did not take any major hits, according to Ron and Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty.
Prior to the Oct. 29 hurricane, JCP&L had told officials and the public to brace for 10 days of outages. Today–Thursday–is day 10, by the town’s reckoning.
