The last time this many people were on the Morristown Green, General Washington was drilling troops.

We’re talking about Saturday’s Morristown Jazz & Blues Festival, which packed the historic square with fans who came for a day and evening of free music by the Jazz Chicks, the Rusty Paul Band with Lou Pallo, Rob Paparozzi and the Hudson River Rats, the Jerry Vezza Quartet with Grover Kemble, and headliner Robben Ford.

Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty, who spearheaded the event, said it was intended to give the local economy a boost during the dog days of summer.

General Washington could have learned a thing or two from the Mayor, who has much better luck with the weather…
