Thursday’s temperature is expected to approach 100 degrees, like Wednesday.  Below are some tips from Jersey Central Power & Light for keeping cool while saving energy.

Also, the seniors center at Morristown town hall remains open as a daytime cooling center.   The Morristown & Township library, the Morris County Library, and a host of local cafés, yogurt and ice cream shops all offer tempting refuges, too.

The municipal pools are open for business to members in Morristown, Morris Township and Morris Plains. And what better time to catch an air-conditioned movie matinee than today?

BEAT-THE-HEAT TIPS FROM JCP&L:

  • Close air conditioning registers in unused rooms and keep the doors to the rooms closed.
  • Don’t position heat-producing appliances near wall-mounted thermostats.
  • Consider setting air conditioners a few degrees warmer on hot days.
  • Close drapes or blinds on windows that receive direct sunlight.
  • Cook with the microwave instead of the oven.
  • Run kitchen and bath  exhaust fans only as long as necessary.  Leaving a fan running pulls cool air from your home.
  • Curtail use of unnecessary household appliance.
