Eight residents and employees of the Morris Hills Nursing Home were taken to nearby Morristown Medical Center after a smoky fire on Saturday morning, Morristown fire officials said.

Conditions of the individuals were not immediately available.

The Morristown Fire Department responded to an alarm at 7:45 am and found thick black smoke on the second floor of the nursing home at 77 Madison Ave.

When Capt. Jon Prachthauser and his men arrived, flames had been extinguished, the department reported.

It was determined that an electrical fixture ignited combustibles in a patient’s bedroom, according to department. Firefighters ventilated the second floor wing. Patients from that wing were re-located to an unaffected part of the nursing home. The Fire Marshal and town health department were notified.
