Rev. Dr. David J. Smazik

The Presbyterian Church in Morristown, New Jersey, is excited to announce that Rev. Dr. David J. Smazik will join its pastoral staff as permanent Senior Pastor and Head of Staff as of November 24, 2010. On Sunday, December 5, 2010, Pastor Smazik will preach at both morning services (9:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.).  Everyone in the Morristown community is invited to meet Pastor Smazik as he leads worship at PCM for the first time, and welcome Pastor Smazik and his wife, Ann, during Fellowship Hour between services.

The Presbyterian Church on the Green is in a bittersweet time of transition as we say “farewell” to our Interim Senior Pastor, Rev. Susan Dee Reisinger.  We are truly thankful and blessed to have had Susan as our interim senior pastor for this past year.  We thank God for her calm wisdom and steady leadership, and her warm and joyful presence in the pulpit.  Please come together on November 14 at 9:15 or 11 a.m. for the Reverend Susan Dee Reisinger’s last day in the pulpit of The Presbyterian Church in Morristown. A reception in honor of Susan Reisinger will be held between services.

Rev. Susan Dee Reisinger

Dave and Ann Smazik were both born and raised in Illinois.  Pastor Smazik completed a Religion/Psychology double major at Hope College, and received a masters in counseling psychology and a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Seminary with an emphasis on church revitalization. He was ordained in 1982.  For the past 17 years, Pastor Smazik served the 900-member Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rockford, Illinois.   Before arriving there, the church had experienced five years of upheaval and was looking for someone to stabilize and energize its ministry.  Under his leadership as Co-Pastor and Head of Staff, worship attendance nearly doubled and ministry activity grew significantly.  He worked with Presbytery and Synod groups in multiple positions and co-authored a book with his brother on personal effectiveness.

Dave and Ann (a former kindergarten teacher) have two children.  Their son, Matthew, and his wife, Alison, live in the Chicago suburbs.  Their daughter, Jennie, lives and works in Milwaukee.  The Smaziks enjoy landscaping, travel, theater and shared time with each other and family. While Dave likes to run, Ann prefers handwork.

Dave is excited by the many gifts represented by the individuals in the congregation of The Presbyterian Church in Morristown and believes this congregation “can exemplify how a vital and growing ministry is possible.”

The Presbyterian Church in Morristown’s sanctuary is located at 57 Park Place (on the Green).  Sunday worship services are held at 9:15 and 11:00 a.m.  Childcare is provided. A noon service is offered on Wednesdays in the Chapel.  Sunday Church School and Adult Education takes place at 9:15 a.m. in the Parish House at 65 South Street in Morristown.  For more information, call the church office at (973) 538-1776 or go to the church website.
