Shopocalypse Now

Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Gospel Choir are coming to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown on Saturday, November 20th at 4:00 p.m. A reception in St. Peter’s Parish Hall will follow this one-of-a-kind event.

Whether performing on the street, stage, film or TV, the irrepressible Church of Stop Shopping Gospel Choir can conjure soaring harmonies lovely enough to convert even the most jaded consumer into a stop shopping true believer.  The all-ages choir of 35 represents a diverse array of economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds.  The Choir has a member from every continent except Antarctica; they’re working on that.

See www.revbilly.com for more about Rev. Billy and the CoSSGC.  Also check out a review of a CoSSGC event here at the Ship of Fools website.  The reviewer says that on a scale of 1-10, Rev. Billy is a “10 – Actually, I would give Rev. Billy a +20. He is more than good. He is unbelievably good. And his message is one that we all need to hear.”  Rev. Billy et al. have made a movie (What Would Jesus Buy?), and some videos, too.   The CoSSGCP website says that “The Church of Life After Shopping is project of The Immediate Life, a New York based arts organization using theater, humor, and grassroots organizing to advance individuals and communities towards a more equitable future – starting today. We partner with citizens, grassroots organizations and progressive visionaries to produce dynamic, informed public campaigns that enact our core values – participatory democracy, ecological sustainability, and the preservation of vibrant communities and local economies.”

So, come!  The Shopocalypse is almost upon us.  Come get some Gospel, music, theater, humor, food, and fun on November 20 – and tell your friends, too!  Tickets are $15 suggested donation for adults and $10 suggested donation for students.

Contact Dee Klikier (973-538-0555, x11 or dklikier@stpetersmorristown.org) at St. Peter’s for more about the event.   St. Peter’s is located at the corner of South Street and Miller Road in downtown Morristown, New Jersey; the church is wheelchair-accessible.
