The Fourteenth Amendment as a Response to the Civil War

The North Jersey Civil War Round Table’s 15th Annual Civil War Legal Issues Presentation will be held at the Haggerty Education Center, Frelinghuysen Arboretum, 353 E. Hanover Ave., Morristown, NJ 07960 at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, November 21st. Free for members and first time attendees, $5 for all others.

Amendment XIV Section 1

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.

No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without; due process of law; nor deny any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the law.
