Maire Na Chathasaigh and Chris Newman at the Minstrel

April 27 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm

$10 - $12

To say that Máire Ní Chathasaigh and Chris Newman play the Celtic Harp and guitar is like saying Earl Scruggs and Bill Monroe pick out tunes on the banjo and mandolin. Their forte is the Irish and Scots repertoire, but they take detours into old-time American tunes and swing. This is a must-see show even for people who are not into harp music. They are outstanding. Openers Andy Cohen & Alan Kaufman have each been playing Old Time Music of one kind or another for more than fifty years. Alan, the fifteen year old fiddle prodigy in the Wretched Refuse String Band, now runs fiddle jams, works as a sideman and produces a cable TV show, “In The Tradition.” Andy learned Blues and Gospel music directly from such masters at the Rev. Gary Davis and others. The upshot of their musical friendship is that they fit together like hand in glove. Alan fiddles, Andy picks, and their music is genuine and robust. Free parking; wheelchair accessible.
