Clash at New Stones: North Jersey Civil War Round Table Zoom Meeting
October 28 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pmFree
Christopher L. Kolakowski, Emerging Civil War’s chief historian, will tell the story of the Battle at New Stones.
On the last day of 1862 and the first days of 1863, the Union Army of the Cumberland and the Confederate Army of Tennessee fought outside Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The battle was the Civil War’s bloodiest by percentage of loss, and occurred in a turbulent political period for the United States. The fighting’s outcome influenced American history, and the Union victory was one Abraham Lincoln later said “had it been a defeat instead, the nation could have scarcely lived over.” This presentation will explore the battle’s course and context.
Kolakowski received his BA in History and Mass Communications from Emory & Henry College, and his MA in Public History from the State University of New York at Albany, has authored a book on the Virginia Campaign in the Civil War for the U.S. Army, two other books on the Civil War for the History Press and another titled the Last Stand at Bataan. Chris is currently the Director of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum.
