Bundle up and batten down: Weekend forecast warns of extreme cold, high winds

0

It’s going to be a dangerous weekend, weather-wise, cautions the National Weather Service.

Wind chills in Greater Morristown could plunge to 20 degrees below zero between 6 am on Saturday, Feb. 7, and noon on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026, according to an extreme cold warning.

That goes hand-in-glove with a wind advisory from 8 am to 9 pm on Saturday.  Northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph may gust to 50 mph.

From the weather service:

Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

There’s more:

High winds potentially leading to power outages combined with extremely cold conditions could be very dangerous!

And:

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must
go outside.

If you do not have heat in your home or lack shelter, you can call
211 for assistance locating appropriate shelter from the cold.
