From the Morris Area Community Blood Program

The Morris Area Community Blood Program, a volunteer organization that serves residents of the Greater Morristown area, recently was honored by New Jersey Blood Services for collecting more than 15,000 pints of blood over the past 25 years.

Sponsored by the Morris Plains Rotary Club, the Morris Area Community Blood Program has been in continuous operation by Morris Plains volunteers for more than 60 years, and currently runs blood drives at the Morris Plains Community Center once a month on the second Thursday of each month except for July.

For further information or to make an appointment to donate blood, please feel free to contact Larry Ripley at 973-998-1081.

  1. Regarding the two recent “gatherings” in Morristown, which I was unable to attend in person but at which my spirit was indeed present, I offer the following opinions: 1. Planned Parenthood is a wonderful provider of reproductive health care for women (according to history [not herstory, for the most part], women have been mere chattel in many places on planet Earth, for the men have had all of the power, and even though women may have more rights in some of those places than they once did, we can still do better; 2. There is absolutely no need for a king in the United States – our country is a constitutional democracy and should remain as such; 3. The fact that the Federal government has done away with USAID, funding for institutions of higher learning, cultural entities, and is considering cutting funding for public radio and public television, and Medicare and Medicaid and child care and SNAP, is anathema (I’ve probably left out a whole host of other entities that the DOGE gang and members of Congress have recommended for funding cuts or elimination) and; 3. The ongoing chaos that has pervaded the United States EVERY SINGLE Day since the inauguration of our most recent President who all too frequently answers questions with “I don’t know” and who incessantly goes on about “making deals,” is downright SCARY and EXHAUSTING. Kudos to Morristown and all of the other municipalities in the USA who are hosting demonstrations to allow their citizenry to express major disillusion with the current situation.

  2. Congrats to the Morris Area Community Blood Program! This is “bloody” good news for those of us who have required blood transfusions, as I did about two and a half years ago. My late mom donated blood into her late 80s (she died 13 days short of her 100th birthday), and I donated blood as long as my hemoglobin levels allowed me to, and then those levels stopped being high enough, doggone it. Donating blood is an easy and painless way to help our fellow human beings – so far, there is no substitute for human blood, as far as I know; thus, I encourage everyone who is able to donate to do so. One never knows when he or she might need to benefit from the generosity of blood donors.
