The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Greater Morristown, and for most of north-central New Jersey, through 7:30 pm today, Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
Thunderstorms are creating heavy downpours.
“Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen so far today,” the NWS reported at 4:11 pm. “The expected rainfall rate is 0.5 to 1 inch in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible…Flash flooding is already occurring.”
Flooding may affect “small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other drainage and low lying areas,” the warning states.
Motorists are advised to turn around if they encounter flooded roads.
“Most flood deaths occur in vehicles,” the weather service cautions.
