Morristown Shade Tree Commission
Announces 12th Annual Arbor Day Celebration
The Morristown Shade Tree Commission is proud to announce its 12th annual Arbor Day celebration, taking place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Budd Park.
This year’s event will feature the planting of 12 native trees along the basketball court in Budd Park, with species including Swamp White Oak, Tulip Poplar, Blackgum, and Red Maple.

A special highlight of the day will be the dedication of three trees donated by the Williamson family in loving memory of David “Lumpy” Franklin Williamson IV, who passed away last year.
Dave was a familiar and beloved presence at Budd Park, especially on the basketball court where he welcomed all with kindness and openness. His spirit of community and inclusion will be honored with these plantings.
The day of events will be:
- 10 am Arbor Day speeches and tree recognition
- 10:30 am children’s story time
- 11 am yoga on the basketball court
- Plus a scavenger hunt, name the leaf game, ice cream truck visit with coffee and hot chocolate donated by local coffee house General Coffee.
The Morristown Shade Tree Commission (STC), created in 2013, is responsible for the town’s public trees and shrubs. The STC continues to plant trees in Morristown’s right of way while also working in the forested areas of Morristown’s local parks.
In the parks, they work to de-vine and save trees, remove and replace invasive shrubs, remediate and reforest. To date, the Morristown STC has brought in $150,000 in grant money for tree plantings.
The Commission meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM in Room 201 at Town Hall. Meetings are open to the public.
This event is being postponed and rescheduled for next Saturday, May 3, same place Budd Park, same time 10 AM. The STC is looking forward to seeing you all there! Kristin Ace
