Morristown’s council may decide tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, whether the Homestead bar on DeHart Street can stage 10 music events this year in a parking lot at DeHart and Maple Avenue, near neighborhoods in Morristown’s Historic District.

The bar contends last fall’s Oktoberfest trial run was a success, and the owners seek permission for 10 similar events on weekends from next month’s St. Patrick’s Parade to October 2025.

They are asking to operate between 10 am and 11 pm in the Hampshire Properties lot adjacent to the bar. The Homestead hopes to book several bands for each event, where alcohol would be served and an admission fee charged.

Residents from the nearby Georgetowne townhomes and owners of the Metro Lofts apartments oppose the application, citing noise concerns.

At a hearing last month, the council also questioned whether weekend crowds for these events would hurt downtown businesses and the Morristown Parking Authority by taking parking spaces.

The special meeting starts at 7 pm in town hall, at 200 South St.

  1. Why not. Less than once a month people have an opportunity to attend a function and not travel outside of the town, rather, have opportunities to live, work, PLAY in our own zip code. It seems reasonable considering that the venue already exists and to restrict its use is almost violating to the functions of business.

Let them offer the locals a venue once a month. Is this really a question?
