Residents who cannot attend this evening’s meeting at Morristown Medical Center (Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, in the hospital’s Malcolm Forbes Auditorium at 7 o’clock) to hear about the hospital’s expansion plans will get another chance.
Morristown officials have scheduled their own presentation for Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7 pm in the town hall seniors center.
As Morristown Green reported last week, the mayor’s office felt that public meetings should have waited until town officials had time to scrutinize a traffic study submitted at the last minute by the hospital. Thy town also advocated for holding these sessions in town hall, for easier access by residents.
Officials at Atlantic Health, the hospital’s parent company, opted to proceed tonight at the hospital.
Nearly $1 billion of proposed additions include many elements floated last year for the 30-acre campus. Atlantic contends an 11-story tower with enlarged helipad, a six-story parking garage with rooftop solar panels, a new specialty medical building, and two more floors atop Goryeb Children’s Hospital are essential for continued cutting-edge care, and for remaining competitive with rival healthcare networks.
Neighbors who felt blind-sided last year have raised questions about traffic, increased helicopter noise, and shadows from the proposed tower.
Atlantic seeks a zone change from the town council for the expansion.
