Representatives of many faiths gathered Sunday on the historic Morristown Green for Diversity Day, an annual celebration dating to 2018.

Ali Chaudry of the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge summed it up in his call to action:

I affirm the dignity of every human being! Therefore, while interacting with members of my own community or those of any faith, race, gender, ability, ethnicity or any individuals, if I hear hateful comments or see hateful actions against any other group or individuals, I pledge to stand up for the other and speak up to challenge bigotry in any form.

Speakers included attorney Atiya Aftab, chair of the Center for Islamic Life at Rutgers. Clergy from at least a half-dozen denominations also participated.  A collection at an interfaith service raised funds for college scholarships administered by the Martin Luther King Observance Committee of Morris County.

Music was courtesy of John Liepold, Elizabeth Bruen, Rob Heinink and Kevin Graf.
