Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-11th Dist.) has “wholeheartedly” endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president, pledging to work “each and every day” until Election Day to ensure her election.

“She has broken barriers while improving public safety, protecting abortion rights, and standing up for our democracy. Vice President Harris understands what is at stake in this election, and as a former prosecutor, is uniquely qualified to prosecute the case against Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, and their extremist Project 2025,” Sherrill, also a former prosecutor, said Sunday in a statement.

Hours earlier, the congresswoman joined other New Jersey lawmakers in praising President Biden for his decision to bow out of the race, something she had urged the 81-year-old Democrat to do.

“Today, Joe Biden has once again shown us why he will be remembered by history as a selfless and accomplished public servant, a defender of democracy, and a force for good during some of the most difficult times in our nation’s history,” posted Sherrill, who seeks a fourth term in a district that includes Greater Morristown. Republican Joseph Belnome is her opponent.

Biden has endorsed Harris to succeed him as the Democratic nominee.

While stepping aside was not an easy decision for Biden, his family and his staff, Sherrill said it reflected the president’s half-century record of “putting our country first.”

She said the stakes are high on Nov. 5, 2024.

“This election is about the future, and the country we are leaving to the next generation of Americans. For my children, and every child in New Jersey, I will work each and every day from now until Tuesday, Nov. 5th, to make sure that Kamala Harris is elected the 47th President of the United States of America.“

As of lunchtime on Monday, no Democrats had come forward to challenge Harris for the nomination.

Politico NJ and The New Jersey Globe have suggested interest by Gov. Phil Murphy in the vice presidency. Murphy is among more than 200 prominent elected Democrats already endorsing Harris for president.

Other reports say potential contenders for the No. 2 spot include California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, according to The Jersey Vindicator.

Donald Trump’s campaign is expected to tie Harris to policies that made Biden “the worst president in the history of the United States by far,” Trump declared at last week’s Republican National Convention.

On Monday, in her first speech since Biden’s announcement, Harris said Biden’s “legacy of accomplishment over the past three years is unmatched in modern history.”

Harris has been polling about the same, or a little better, than Biden, while still narrowly trailing Trump, in surveys taken before Biden bowed from the race.

At least half of voters surveyed by NBC News have negative opinions of Harris, Biden and Trump.

  1. Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill and the current administration caused most of the inflation $ we see at the grocery store , gas pump etc. This administration cut oil production in the USA on his first day in office, and caused consumers to buy overseas oil , supporting the Russian market and Iran etc. Making them very rich. It’s a fact. The local truckers simply raised shipping prices $ and never looked back. We were lied to and told it’s all about shortages , but the shut down is over and most prices are still sky high! Why? The current administration! They caused these issues with no solutions in sight or mentioned.
Where and what is the plan to help lower interest % rates? Stopping the world wide wars? Telling us about the dangers and warning us about Iran? Iran will soon have a nuclear weapon in a week and a half ,and they vowed to kill Donald Trump!
The FBI is very concerned about terrorists crossing the south western border. Evil forces are waiting to attack us. Scary stuff.
VP Harris has a 3.5 year record on the border and has never submitted a public report or update . 4 years ago she said all US laws would be obeyed and enforced. But did zero. Her record explains her efforts.
Awful that the press does not ask these important questions.
    Good to see some
real thinking people here in these comments.
When Mikie Sherrill became the local elected congress person, she went to Washington DC and got her marching orders from the party bosses. That’s all we get ,she seems to have forgotten about many of the issues effecting the residents. For many elected officials in her party this election is all about keeping their jobs , power , money, investments, and connections. The residents? They are left out and forgotten. The biggest problem is that we the American people have no idea who has been running the country the past 3.5. Years. VP Harris and her friends in DC will do what they are told while life gets harder for many in the USA.
    Time to pay attention folks.

  2. It’s too bad that Mikie didn’t do her homework on Project 2025 and Trump. He has just ,again, said he had no part in it, has not read the document but has been briefed on it’s contents, and he does not endorse it or support it. He specifically said that parts of it “sound very extreme to him” and that The Heritage Foundation who wrote it does not speak for him! We all know that there are extremes on both sides of the aisle and Mikie should know that and resist the urge to tie Trump to something he is not involved with and does not support for the sole purpose of maligning the opposition and causing divisiveness. Mikie should not stoop to beencouraging “Trump Derangement Syndrome”. I really thought she was above such behavior.

  3. I wonder if I am dreaming this. It doesn’t seem real that this Harris actually could be the next president.
    Let that sink in.
Aside from whipping up word salads, cackling, and raising bail money for rioters, what has she done? What are her accomplishments, abilities, and skills? Imagine her on the world stage. I shudder.

  4. Who cares who Mikie “endorses”. Of course she endorses whomever the Democrat nominee is. They could nominate a potato chip and she’d endorse as would every other Democrat…

  5. Trump has been called an existential threat to democracy, yet the Democrats (including Mikie Sherril) forced the duly elected nominee out of the running. 458,281 New Jersey Democrats voted for Joe Biden and have had their vote nullified. Democrat, Republican, Independent, or other, this should be VERY concerning to everyone. That is the true existential threat to democracy. New primaries need to be held.
