Morris Plains Community Band to hold Free Concerts

The Morris Plains Community Band will be presenting concerts in Roberts Garden Park (at the corner of Glenbrook Road and Mountain Way in Morris Plains) every Wednesday evening in August 2024.

The concerts are free of charge and will begin at 6:30 pm each week. Attendees should bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit on. Roberts Garden is a very shady public park, with an arboretum-like environment.

Each weekly concert will present an entirely different program as follows:

Aug. 7th Great American Composers, including works by Irving Berlin, Rogers & Hammerstein, John Williams, Leonard Bernstein, Henry Mancini among others. Also featured in this concert will be the Morris Plains Community Choir singing several patriotic selections by American composers.

Aug. 14thSwing Tones, our 1930’s – 1940’s era 20-piece swing jazz band, will present a concert of Count Basie and Duke Ellington hits, featuring the vocal stylings of Mark Gold, who will be performing several songs that were recorded by Frank Sinatra with the Count Basie Orchestra.

Aug. 21stMusic from Around the World – will present 18 songs from different countries of the world, and will feature music from England, France, Norway, Russia, Spain, Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Italy, Canada, Ireland and the United States.

Aug. 28thPop Hits Through the Years will feature top song hits from the late 1930’s to the present day, and will include songs by Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, Henry Mancini, The Four Seasons, Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Blood Sweat & Tears, Chicago, Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond, Queen, Cold Play, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars.
