There were few silver linings to the pandemic. One enduring plus, from an arts standpoint, has been Outdoor Concerts on the Back Deck at the Morris Museum.

Those first parking lot shows enabled people to escape from claustrophobic confinement, quarantines and isolation. They were opportunities to socialize safely, re-connect with the community, and provide paychecks for performers starved for gigs.

At that moment, for all concerned, the rooftop of that parking deck was a venue as grand as the Bickford Theatre, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, all rolled into one.

Everyone liked it so much, in fact, that it remains a popular summer destination.

Season Five opens on June 15, 2024, with Amani’s tribute to Tony Bennett.  Fourteen shows — showcasing classical ensembles, jazz groups and swing bands — are planned through Sept. 14.  The lineup is here.

As always, patrons will bring their own chairs and refreshments.

Tickets are $53 for an eight-foot-by-eight-foot block for two patrons, or $28 for a one-person block. Concerts start at 7:30 PM; patrons are invited to arrive 90 minutes early to picnic.

Bad weather moves everything into the Bickford. The museum is at 6 Normandy Heights Road in Morris Township, 973-971-3706.
