Greater Morristown weekend preview: Comedy, music and magic

Many performers and venues are taking a well-earned breather after the holiday entertainment blitz.

But Greater Morristown still offers some fun options this weekend.

THURSDAY, JAN. 4, 2024:

The Morris Museum in Morris Township continues two major shows, From Flame to Flower: The Art of Paul J. Stankard (through Feb. 4, 2024) and Framing Nature’s Paradox: Neil Jenney & Donald Sultan, 1969-2023 (through Feb. 18, 2024). Jazz favorite Grover Kemble performs at Rockaway’s Caffé NaVona, 147 Route 46, from 6 – 9 pm. Hear him play songs from his new album, I’m Serious.

Morristown’s St. Peter’s Episcopal Church hosts tango lessons in the Parish House, 7 pm for beginners, 8 pm intermediate class. At 70 Maple Ave.


FRIDAY, JAN. 5:

At 7:30 pm, the Folk Project’s Troubadour series presents Deni Bonet & Chris Flynn, with openers Zuko, Phillips, Cohn & Starr. Admission: $10; children 12 and under, free.  Livestream: $7. At 21 Normandy Heights Road, Morris Township.

The Mayo Performing Arts Center presents Manhattan Comedy Night, at 8 pm. Featuring Eric Neuman, Carmen Lynch, Ted Alexandro, Matt Ruby and Andy Pitz. Mature content; adults only. Tickets: $25-35.  At 100 South St., Morristown, 973-539-8008.


SATURDAY, JAN. 6:

The Morristown & Township Library hosts Indoor Qigong at 9:30 am. Free. No experience or registration required. Upstairs in the F.M. Kirby Gallery, at One Miller Road, Morristown.

The Mayo Performing Arts Center presents Reza:The Edge of Illusion, at 3 pm and 8 pm. Tickets: $29-$49. At 100 South St., Morristown, 973-539-8008.

SUNDAY, JAN. 7:

Grow It Green Morristown’s Morris Winter Farmers Market is back, from 9:30 am to 1 pm every Sunday (except March 31) through April 2023, at the Convent Train Station in Morris Township. Featuring nearly 30 vendors.

The Mayo Performing Arts Center presents a one-hour adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, for ages 2-7, at 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm. Tickets: $15-$20. The 4:30 pm show will be a sensory-friendly performance. At 100 South St., Morristown, 973-539-8008.
