Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty said Wednesday he is “thrilled” to welcome Sanofi as the second tenant at the massive M Station redevelopment.

“On behalf of the entire town of Morristown, I am thrilled to welcome Sanofi and their team to our vibrant business community,” Dougherty said in a statement, days after reports that the French pharma and healthcare giant is moving all 1,900 employees from its New Jersey flagship facility in Bedminster to M Station West, at Morris and Spring streets.

Sanofi, best known for the sleep drug Ambien, plans to move here in two phases, concluding in the first quarter of 2025.  A seven-story building will be constructed alongside the six-story M Station East, the new home of Big Four accounting firm Deloitte.

The project is being developed by SJP Properties, in partnership with Scotto Properties, which owned the strip mall that has been replaced by these corporate offices.

“The addition of this high caliber global organization will surely invigorate Morristown’s downtown while supporting established retailers and restaurants,” Dougherty’s statement continued.

“Healthcare is an integral part of the Morristown community and the addition of this important life sciences campus will only reinforce Morristown’s already exemplary position in this industry. Our world-class charming town, with excellent housing options and Midtown Direct train line, will no doubt be a perfect home for Sanofi’s flagship New Jersey location. We look forward to our new neighbors in 2024!”

The mayor’s statement cited 2022 polls by Money.com and Livability ranking Morristown among the nation’s best places to live.  Valley National Bank plans to move its headquarters to a new building on Speedwell Avenue this year.

  1. This is a big deal. I hate to barge in here with an inconvenient question at a time like this, but aren’t hotel rooms needed for nearby corporate offices? The downtown corporate presence is growing by thousands, yet there is only one hotel downtown. How does that work? I am asking for a friend of a friend.
