From the Morristown Martin Luther King Observance Committee:

The MLK Observance Committee is honored to bring to the community its 53rd Annual commemorative MLK Day service.

The theme for this year is, From Dream to Action: Healing Our Divisions. Our theme this year emphasizes action and positive movement towards creating an environment where all Americans can thrive.

The observance for 2023 marks the 38th year that Dr. King’s birthday will be commemorated as a national holiday. Again, the Observance Committee will be collaborating with the Morris Area Clergy Council and the African American Clergy Association to jointly sponsor its 53rd Annual commemorative service on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023.

The celebration will be offered as a hybrid (virtual and live-streamed) event.  The King Day 2023 Celebration will be a single Service of Commemoration at 10 AM at the Calvary Baptist Church, available for viewing on Facebook and/or the Martin Luther King Observance Committee website.

Delivering the keynote will be the Rev. Dr. David Jefferson, pastor of the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Newark.

The service will be followed by a series of panel discussions, featuring prominent community leaders and political representatives from our area, including Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-11th Dist.).

These discussions can be viewed by logging on to the Martin Luther King Observance Committee website.

Panel topics will include:

  • Managing Controversial Discourse; Henry Lee, moderator. Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill will be a panelist.
