THIS STORY HAS BEEN UPDATED, WITH MORE BARS
It may be hard to find a drink in Qatar.
But it won’t a problem for soccer fans in Morristown on Sunday morning.
To celebrate the World Cup final between Argentina and defending champion France, the Morristown council has given local bars special dispensation to dispense alcohol starting at 9 a.m., game time.
As of Friday afternoon, these establishments had registered with town Clerk Margot Kaye to open early on Sunday:
- 1776 by David Burke
- The Famished Frog
- FOMO
- Glenbrook Brewery
- Grasshopper Off the Green
- Homestead/Tashmoo
- Horseshoe Tavern
- Iron Bar
- The Office Tavern and Grill
- Orale Mexican Kitchen
- Stirling Tavern
- Tavern Off the Green
Normally, bars cannot open until noon on Sundays. But the World Cup, unlike Christmas, comes but once every four years.
“The Town of Morristown recognizes the significance of this event for sports fans and wishes to accommodate same by permitting licensed on-premise retailers to open early for the sale, service and consumption of alcoholic beverages during the event,” explains a resolution adopted unanimously by the town council on Tuesday.
