One need not look far for sadness and suffering.

Those sides of the human condition often obscure the goodness in our midst — the family and friends and kind-hearted strangers who make life worth living. Greater Morristown abounds with such people, imbued with compassion and empathy and generosity.

Thank you for making this place a community.

We plan to ease off the gas pedal for a few days, and hope you are able to do the same. See you after the leftovers are polished off.

THURSDAY, NOV. 24, 2022: THANKSGIVING

Get a leg up before downing that turkey leg: The 16th annual Read Feed Run Turkey Trot 5K kicks off at 8:30 am in Morris Township. A mile-long Fun Walk/Run starts at 8:45, followed by a Kids’ Trot (12 and under) at 9:15 am. Proceeds benefit reading programs of the Literacy Volunteers of Morris County and food initiatives of the Interfaith Food Pantry Network.


FRIDAY, NOV. 25:

Acclaimed harpist Merynda Adams performs a recital of holiday favorites at 1:30 pm at the Madison Community Arts Center, 10 Kings Road.

Morris Township’s Hillside Hose Company launches its annual Christmas tree sale, from 4 pm to 8 pm. The sale runs through Christmas Eve. At 132 Western Ave.

At 7:30 pm, the Folk Project’s Troubadour series presents a double dose of musical comedy: The Loose Canons with Carla Ulbrich, at the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship. Admission: $10; children 12 and under, free. Livestream: $4.99. At 21 Normandy Heights Road, Morris Township.

The Mayo Performing Arts Center presents Manhattan Comedy Night, at 8 pm. Featuring Ian Lara, Erica Spera, Jon Fisch and Ethan Simmons-Patterson. Mature content; adults only. Tickets: $25-30. At 100 South St., Morristown, 973-539-8008.


SATURDAY, NOV. 26:

It’s Small Business Saturday–shop small, shop local!

The 17th annual Madison Holiday Arts Festival presents music and visual arts from noon until 11 am, across several downtown venues. Free. See website for listings.

SUNDAY, NOV. 27:

Maestro Robert Butts of the Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey concludes the 17th annual Madison Holiday Arts Festival with Poe Stories at 3 pm. Free, donations welcome. At the Madison Community Arts Center, 10 Kings Road.

Morristown’s Mayo Performing Arts Center presents RUDOLPH The Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical, at 2 pm and 6:30 pm. Tickets: $39-$69. At 100 South St., call 973-539-8008.

Postponed until Friday, Dec . 2, 2022 because of weather:

Santa will return in fluffy splendor to the Morristown Green at 5 pm. Give him a warm welcome — he’s coming from the frosty North Pole, remember — and make sure to skate back to the Green each weekend through Dec. 18 for reindeer games, train rides, caroling and more. All the fun is free, except for pictures with Santa, which cost $15. Presented by the Morristown Partnership.
