Fireworks are coming back to First Night Morris, along with Morristown favorite John Ginty and his band.

The 31st annual edition of the New Year’s Eve extravaganza promises more than 70 performances across 21 venues, and more than 50 films.

Fireworks, missing during the pandemic, are scheduled for 9:15 pm and midnight. Rock organist Ginty, one of Morristown High’s most celebrated alumni (’90), will do a pair of shows at the Mayo Performing Arts Center. His credits include gigs with Robert Randolph, the Dixie Chicks and Santana. Ginty headlined at First Night 2018.

Another star MHS grad, Rio Clemente, will be back to show off the jazz piano skills that have kept him in demand for years.

Baroque, classical and opera acts will be featured, too. So will reggae; Irish fiddling; and tap-, Indian-, and square dancing. A hypnotist, always a crowd-pleaser, also is on the roster. Morristown High will host a Children’s Fun Festival from 4:45 pm to 9 pm.

On-demand access to the film festival will extend from 4 pm on New Year’s Eve until 4 pm on New Year’s Day, 2023.

Tickets start at $25. Parking will be free at any Morristown parking garage, and free shuttle buses will start linking venues at 4:45 pm, according to First Night Chairman Walter Deutsch.

Stay tuned for more.
