We honor our veterans with ceremonies on Friday and, if you are historically inclined, dancing on Saturday to the hit parade from World War I.

Greater Morristown offers many other entertaining opportunities as well this weekend.

THURSDAY, NOV. 10, 2022:

Jazz favorite Grover Kemble performs at Rockaway’s Caffé NaVona, 147 Route 46, from 6 – 9 pm. See our review of his recent Troubadour gig.

Morristown’s St. Peter’s Episcopal Church hosts tango lessons in the Parish House, 7 pm for beginners, 8 pm intermediate class. At 70 Maple Ave.

A 7 pm, the Morristown & Township Library presents its Virtual Classics Book Club, featuring William Faulkner’s classic 1948 novel, Intruder in the Dust. Email here for the Zoom access code. Morristown’s Mayo Performing Arts Center presents Preservation Hall Jazz Band Pass It On: 60th Anniversary Musical,  at 7:30 pm. Tickets: $29-$69.  At 100 South St., 973-539-8008.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in Madison presents Florence and Mojo, a pair of one-act plays by Alice Childress, a Pulitzer-nominated African American playwright from the 1950s and ’60s, at 8 pm. Final weekend! Tickets: $39-$69. At Drew University, 36 Madison Ave., 973-408-5600.


FRIDAY, NOV. 11, VETERANS DAY:

Ceremonies will honor our veterans at 10 am at the Morris Township Municipal Building (50 Woodland Ave.) and, weather permitting, at 11 am on the Morristown Green.

The Woman’s Club of Morristown’s annual Holiday Boutique kicks off from noon to 8 pm, and continues through the weekend. At 51 South St.

The Folk Project’s Open Stage  is back– in live mode– at 7:30 pm. To sign up to perform two songs, please email here. Admission: $5. At the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship,  21 Normandy Heights Road, Morris Township.

The Metropolitan Vintage Dance & Social Club presents its 14th Annual Armistice Ball from 8 to 11 p.m. in the Great Hall at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 121 South St., Morristown. Ball tickets: $40 per person in advance/$45 at the door ($20 advance/$25 at door with student ID); proceeds benefit the Thursday Morning Club of Madison.  A jazz orchestra led by Dan Levinson will perform dance tunes of the early 20th century. A period dance workshop will be held at the church hall from 2 pm to 4 pm.

 


SUNDAY, NOV. 13:

The Morristown Farmers Market enters the penultimate weekend of its 32nd season, from 8:30 am to 1 pm, behind the Post Office in Morristown Parking Authority Lot 10 at Spring and Morris Streets. Presented by the Morristown Partnership.

The fun from Saturday’s Armistice Ball continues with an Edwardian/Twenties tea brunch  at 11:30 a.m. at historic Willow Hall, 330 Speedwell Ave., Morristown.  Tickets: $30.

The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey performs the world premiere of The Amiable Consort, and works by Mozart and Kozeluch, at 2 pm at Dolan Hall at Saint Elizabeth University in Morris Township. Tickets: $30-$40; students with I.D., $5. At 2 Convent Road.

Morristown’s Assumption Church invites teens to Pizza with a Priest after the 5:30 pm Mass, featuring Capt. “Father” Andrew James DeSilva, a U.S. Army chaplain recently returned from a tour in Iraq, for a Veterans Weekend conversation. At 91 Maple Ave.
