Greater Morristown weekend preview: Halloween 2022!

Sometimes it’s good to take a break from scary headlines, and chill with some good old-fashioned goblins, ghosts and zombies.

You’ll find plenty of those in Greater Morristown this weekend, and a fair amount of candy, too.

THURSDAY, OCT. 27:

The Morristown & Township Library presents the season’s final yoga session on its side lawn at 10 am. Free. Please bring your own yoga mat and equipment. At One Miller Road, Morristown.

Jazz favorite Grover Kemble performs at Rockaway’s Caffé NaVona, 147 Route 46, from 6 – 9 pm. See our review of his recent Troubadour gig.

The Museum of Early Trades and Crafts in Madison presents Zombies, Witches, and Vampires: How the Dead Speak, at 7 pm. Admission: $10. Featuring bioarcheologist Jill Rhodes. At 23 Main St., 973-377-2982. Pre-register.

Morristown’s St. Peter’s Episcopal Church hosts tango lessons in the Parish House, 7 pm for beginners, 8 pm intermediate class. At 70 Maple Ave.

The Morris Museum’s Bickford Theatre in Morris Township presents the Horszowski Trio at 7:30 pm, in a program including works by Shostakovich and the U.S. premiere of Louis Karchin’s Trio for Violin, Cello, and Piano. Tickets: $15-$30. At 6 Normandy Heights Road, (973) 971-3700.

The County College of Morris in Randolph presents The Addams Family, A New Musical Comedy, at 7:30 pm. Tickets: $10-$15. Runs through Oct. 29, 2022. In the Student Community Center’s Dragonetti Auditorium, at 214 Center Grove Road.

Morristown’s Mayo Performing Arts Center presents Better Than Ezra, with opener Bones Owens, at 8 pm. Tickets: $40-$70.  At 100 South St., 973-539-8008.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in Madison presents Florence and Mojo, a pair of one-act plays by Alice Childress, a Pulitzer-nominated African American playwright from the 1950s and ’60s. FRIDAY, OCT. 28:

At 7:30 pm, the Folk Project’s Troubadour series presents its annual Halloween Show at the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship. Admission: $10; children 12 and under, free. Livestream: $4.99. “Members and the audience dress up and The Folk Project’s Official Halloween Judges Panel will award valuable and invaluable prizes for the songs, recitations, costumes and bribes that they feel worthy of recognition. St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown hosts a Halloween Santa Milonga from 8 pm to midnight. Tickets: $25. Halloween costumes encouraged, but not required. Deejay, guest performances by U.S. tango champions. In the Parish House at 70 Maple Ave.; enter via Miller Road, park in South Street lot, entrance near Cottage II restaurant.

Pioneer Productions presents the Tony Award®-winning play, God of Carnage, at Fellowship Hall in the Morristown United Methodist Church at 8 pm. Tickets: $25. Runs through Nov. 6. At 50 S. Park Place.

SATURDAY, OCT. 29:

Morristown’s Mayo Performing Arts Center presents Disney Junior Live On Tour: Costume Palooza at noon and 4 pm. Tickets: $39-$69.  At 100 South St., 973-539-8008.

Morris Township’s 6th Annual Night Of Halloween Festivities actually starts at 1 pm, with the police department’s Trunk or Treat, on Dwyer Lane. Free pre-registration, but participants must decorate their trunks and give out candy through Community Pass.  There will be a petting zoo, pony rides, pumpkins and pumpkin painting. Wear your costumes!  At 6:45 pm, the department of parks and recreation will prevent a free screening of The Addams Family 2 (PG) at Ginty Field, across from the Township Municipal Complex on Woodland Avenue. The fire department concludes the fun with a

Society and Grace Community Music present a Halloween concert at 7 p.m., at Grace Church in Madison. Admission: Freewill donation; please also bring a non-perishable food donation if you can. The Morris Tourism Bureau and the Hanover Heritage Commission present Halloween in the Whippany Burying Yard, a free Halloween party that starts at 5 pm with a torchlight tour of Morris County’s first graveyard. Costumes are encouraged, refreshments will be served. All ages and scary costumes welcome! St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown will present the 1922 silent horror classic Nosferatu, with live organ accompaniment by Music Director Anthony Hammond, at 7:20 pm. Free. Not recommended for small children.  At South Street and Miller Road.

SUNDAY, OCT. 30:

The Morristown Farmers Market continues its 32nd season, every Sunday through Nov. 20, 2022, from 8:30 am to 1 pm, behind the Post Office in Morristown Parking Authority Lot 10 at Spring and Morris Streets. Presented by the Morristown Partnership.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in Madison presents Florence and Mojo, a pair of one-act plays by Alice Childress, at 2 pm and 7:30 pm.

The Fellowship Cultural Arts Center in Basking Ridge presents the Madison String Quartet at 2:30 pm. Tickets: $19-$40. In the Sieminski Theater, 8000 Fellowship Road, (866) 307-8532.

Lyrica Chamber Music opens its season at 3 pm with Anton Rist, principal clarinetist for the Metropolitan Opera, cellist Ani Kalayjian and pianist Min Kwon, playing music of Beethoven, Brahms and Gershwin. Morris Arts has rescheduled its  13th Annual Pumpkin Illumination for 5 pm. (Weather pushed it back from last week.) Free. Includes an arts workshop, live jazz music and a luminary parade led by Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty. Register your party for free to receive event updates including weather details. The choir at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown will present Faure’s Requiem, in remembrance of loved ones ahead of All Souls’ Day, at 6 pm. Free. At South Street and Miller Road.


MONDAY, OCT. 31, HALLOWEEN:

The town of Morristown invites boys and ghouls to a Ghostly Gathering on the town hall lawn, from 2 pm to 5 pm. Treats, snacks, and a photo booth. At 200 South St.

The spooky sweets continue along South Street in Morristown, where businesses will have candy for trick or treaters from 3 pm to 5 pm. Organized by the Morristown Partnership.
