Steve Hogan, known in Morristown as Hogie, has a positive spirit that is inspiring.

Performing outside SmartWorld Coffee on Friday, he shared how an unexpected benefit of chemotherapy is a hoarseness that enhances certain songs.

Then he and buddy Rick Krueger launched into this cover of Tom WaitsDowntown Train:

The community has rallied behind Hogie, Morristown High School Class of ’97, since his diagnosis with pancreatic cancer in 2020.

His many fans now include 2 1/2 year old Safa, the improv dancer in the video. She was taking a break with her father, Basil Steitieh of Bridgewater, after visiting Morristown Medical Center to greet the birth of her brother, Muhammad.

“She’s excited,” her dad said.

Friday’s sidewalk concert was sponsored by Compass Realty. Inside SmartWorld, Kendra Arnold of the Feasty Vegan shop gave out samples of vegan doughnuts, made with oat milk.

We can’t vouch for their health advantages…but they are tasty.
