Over the last couple of years filmmakers have come to Morristown to shoot political pilot episodes, (Ways & Means, starring Patrick Dempsey), dramas (A Good Person, starring Morgan Freeman and Florence Pugh) and comedies (Cocoa, with a cameo by Sopranos star John Bianco).
Add horror movies to the list.
A film crew spent a hot Tuesday at the Convent Mews condo complex shooting scenes for the fifth installment in the Insidious series.
Insidious 5 revisits the Lambert family 10 years after the last film, as Dalton starts college, according to IMDb. The family is plagued by a demon from a strange dimension called The Further.
It’s the directorial debut of two-time Tony Award nominee Patrick Wilson (The Full Monty, Oklahoma), whose film credits include Moonfall, Watchmen and the first Insidious in 2010.
Wilson also will reprise his role as Josh Lambert, reports Screenrant.com.
“I’m honored and thrilled to be at the helm of the next Insidious installment, which will provide an amazing chance to unpack everything the Lamberts went through a decade ago, as well as deal with the consequences of their choices,” Slashfilm.com quoted Wilson as saying in 2020.
“Directing the movie is both professionally and personally a full-circle moment for me, and I am extremely grateful to be entrusted in continuing to tell this frightening and haunting story. Into the further we go.”
Created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, the Insidious series so far has grossed $539 million worldwide, on a total budget of just $26.5 million, by Wikipedia’s reckoning.
The new chapter is from Blumhouse Productions, with distribution by Sony Pictures Entertainment, according to IMDb.
Indoor scenes were filmed on Tuesday. It was the second day of a five-week shoot in the area, a crew member said.
A few doors down from the filming, a Convent Mews resident named Carla responded emphatically when asked if she is a fan of horror movies: “No, not at all.”
Will she make an exception and watch this one?
“I might,” Carla ventured, “on mute, and fast-forward.”
