The weather was wonderful, and so was the music. Here’s a sampling of what Greater Morristown had to offer on Sunday.

Twenty-six young Englishmen and women from Christ’s College of the University of Cambridge, on a U.S. tour, paid a visit to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown. Conducted by Professor David Rowland, the choir let loose on Hubert Parry’s Blest Pair of Sirens:

Everyone then moved onto the church’s Great Lawn for a carillon concert by recent Yale grad Paul Stelben.  He plays and teaches carillon in Philadelphia, and develops software for the Yale School of Public Health. Here is his arrangement of The Weeknd’s Die For You:

St. Peter’s continues its free 5 pm carillon concerts with Wade Fitzgerald on July 17, Hunter Chase on July 24, Anna Kasprzycka on July 31, and Claire Janezic on Aug. 7.  The series is dedicated to the late John Dyer, the church carillonneur for more than two decades.

Over in Morris Plains, The Moondogs rocked Roberts Garden with hits from Bob Seger, Billy Joel and the Boss.  Nina Rangel, a youth minister at St. Virgil’s Church and a star from Morristown Onstage, joined the band for a smoking rendition of Pat Benatar’s Hit Me With Your Best Shot:

The free Morris Plains series continues at 6 pm on July 17 with the Beatles tribute band London Calling. On July 24th, it’s The Kootz. And on July 31, the Genessee Stills Band makes its borough debut.

Meanwhile, Diversity Day featured plenty of tunes on the Morristown Green. Here is Caravan, performed by the Lintet Jazz Duet.

And the hits keep coming this week.

On Tuesday, July 12,  18-year-old Jake Thistle gives a free 7 pm concert at the Ginty Field Gazebo in Morris Township.

And on Wednesday, July 13, at 6 PM, the Mayo Performing Arts Center presents a free show by the duo Acute Inflections on the Vail Mansion Plaza, at 110 South St. in Morristown. The opening act is 12-year-old Zion Pearson, a winner of the 2022 Morristown Onstage competition.
