From St. Peter’s Episcopal Church:

CARILLON ON THE GREAT LAWN CONCERTS
SUNDAYS AT 5PM – JULY 3 to AUG. 7

After a successful series of similar concerts last year, on Sunday, July 3, 2022, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown (South Street at Miller Road) begins a six week run of performances on the church’s carillon that can be enjoyed for free on the Great Lawn outside the church.

Some of the finest performers in the world will be playing, and for those who know nothing about carillons it will be a wonderful introduction.

St. Peter’s is fortunate to have an instrument comprised of 49 bells in its tower, and the Great Lawn is easily the best place from which to hear it. Bring chairs or blankets to sit on, and bring food and drink for a picnic if you would like.

The series opens on July 3 with Geert D’hollander, one of the world’s foremost carillonneurs and carillon composers. A first prize winner in over 30 international competitions, since 2012 Geert has been the full-time carillonneur at Bok Tower Gardens, Lake Wales, Florida.

On July 10, Paul Stelben joins us. Paul studied carillon at Yale and now plays at First United Methodist Church of Germantown, Philadelphia.

On July 17, it’s the turn of Wade Fitzgerald, from Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, PA. Wade studied at the University of Florida and had a fellowship at Bok Tower Gardens under the mentorship of Geert D’hollander.

On July 24, we welcome Hunter Chase, a brilliant young carillonneur who studied at the University of Chicago.

From further afield, on July 31 we will be privileged to hear a very talented young Polish performer, Anna Kasprzycka, who is presently carillonneur of Parrochialkirche in Berlin, Germany. Anna is another player to have held a fellowship at Bok Tower Gardens, and today she enjoys a busy international performing and recording career.

The final concert in the series, on Aug. 7, is given by Claire Janezic, who has spent the last five years playing at the University of Rochester alongside her studies there. Claire recently was awarded a Fellowship from the Belgian American Educational Foundation (BAEF) to study carillon at the Royal Carillon School ‘Jef Denyn’ in Mechelen, Belgium. She will leave for Europe later in August.
