Nearly 500 cyclists, escorted by about 50 cops on motorcycles, rolled down Woodland Avenue in Morris Township around noon Monday on the Police Unity Tour.

Their numbers are anticipated to multiply four- or five-fold by the time the tour reaches the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington DC later this week.

Established by Florham Park Police Officer Patrick Montuore with 18 riders in 1997, the annual tour has raised more than $30 million for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, according to the tour’s website.

“We ride for those who died,” is the tour’s motto.
