You need a scorecard to follow the Morris County Democratic Committee lately.

Chairman Chip Robinson announced last week that he’s resigning, and he expected his executive team to do the same. His number two, Vice Chairman Robin Gurin, called that “presumptuous and disrespectful” and said she wasn’t quitting.  Then, she quit, according to published reports. (Gurin did not respond to requests for comment.)

Reps. Mikie Sherrill (D-11th Dist.) and Tom Malinowski (D-7th Dist.) endorsed Mendham Township Committeewoman Amalia Duarte for county chairperson. A party convention is anticipated to make its choice in May.

On Thursday, Duarte announced her “Morris United 2022” ticket.

Greater Morristown people on her slate include Morristown consultant Mike DeLamater (Vice Chair), who was political director for Gov. Phil Murphy’s re-election campaign; Morristown Councilwoman Tawanna Cotten (executive board and advisory team); Michael Thompson (Treasurer), an attorney for a Morristown firm; Jason D. Navarino (executive board and advisory team), an attorney from Morris Township; and Cara Parmigiana (Sergeant at Arms), a lawyer from Morris Plains and past candidate for borough council and Morris County Commissioner.

Below is Duarte’s scorecard.

Amalia Duarte Excited to Lead “Morris United 2022” Team

Duarte Creates New Executive Board+ Advisory Team to Increase
Diversity, Transparency; Harness Expertise and Energy
of Morris County Democrats

Mendham, NJ — Mendham Township Committeewoman and Morris County Democratic Committee (MCDC) Electeds Caucus Chair Amalia Duarte today announced the Morris United 2022 Team running together for the MCDC leadership.

Duarte is committed to bringing more voices into the MCDC leadership, especially women. She is creating a new Executive Board+ Advisory Team to provide the expertise, energy, transparency and accountability needed to put MCDC on a strong path forward.

“This team is poised to help build successful campaigns across Morris County with its strong background in running for public office, community organizing and representing diverse backgrounds and perspectives,” said Duarte.

“There has been a gap in the MCDC leadership regarding running for office and governing. It’s hard to teach someone how to swim, if you’ve never jumped into the water yourself. I am excited to bring more women and a high school student to the leadership team. This mirrors my work on the Township Council, where in 2018, I wrote a local law to add student representatives to several of our volunteer committees. It is an honor to lead a team of such talented individuals.”
