From the Morristown Jewish Center Beit Yisrael:

Volunteers from throughout the Morristown Jewish Center Beit Yisrael (MJCBY) community collaborated on Mitzvah Day, Sunday, April 3, 2022, to help our neighbors in need.

Working together, seniors and teens, families and singles filled 250 Rise and Shine breakfast bags and Purposeful Acts of Kindness kits of toiletries for nourishNJ (formerly known as the Community Soup Kitchen) attendees, and 25 backpacks full of school supplies for needy Head Start students.

Lou Bodian, Morristown, MJCBY Social Action Chair, thanked both the MJCBY congregants and other volunteers and the MJCBY Sisterhood who financed the Mitzvah Day project.

“This was the first time since the pandemic that we’ve been able to get together in person for one of our Social Action activities,” Bodian noted.

“I feel the volunteer response reflected how anxious folks are to get back to extending a hand…a literal, not just a virtual hand…to others in our community as best we can.” Bodian encouraged anyone who is interested in participating in MJCBY’S local support activities to get involved.

“MJCBY has long been committed to Social Action in Morristown,” Bodian reminded the Mitzvah Day participants.

“We continue to perform Tikkun Olam through our participation in various nourishNJ programs, among others,” Bodian said.

“We have been volunteering at local Farmers Markets and handing out lunch and toiletries from nourishNJ’s facility on Sussex Avenue. There are plenty of opportunities for anyone interested in getting involved in these programs to do so. All you have to do is contact me and I’ll show you how to get on the volunteer schedule.”
